Microneedling Q&A

What is microneedling?

Microneedling rejuvenates your skin by stimulating collagen production. Everyone needs collagen to maintain healthy, supple skin. Unfortunately, your skin produces less and less collagen as you age. As a result, you end up with loose skin and wrinkles.

Your Apollo Physicians provider performs microneedling using the Réjuvapen NXT®, a medical device produced by Refine USA® Aesthetic Technologies.

The Réjuvapen uses fine needles to make tiny pricks in your skin, and these microwounds trigger collagen production. As new collagen-rich skin replaces dead skin at the surface, you regain firm, healthy skin.

What skin problems improve with microneedling?

Microneedling reverses common signs of aging and skin problems like:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Loose skin
  • Acne scars
  • Large pores
  • Crepey skin
  • Brown spots (age spots and sun damage)

The Réjuvapen NXT is also FDA-cleared to treat the area around your eyes, including smoothing crow’s feet (laugh lines) and undereye wrinkles. Most people get microneedling for their face, neck, and upper chest.

What should I expect during microneedling?

Before your treatment, your provider evaluates your skin and learns about the problem areas you want to treat. They customize your treatment by adjusting the Réjuvapen NXT, ensuring that the needles penetrate deep enough to treat the problem being treated.

After applying a topical anesthetic to numb your skin, they place the pen on your skin and activate the needles. The length of your procedure depends on the area being treated. For example, treatments under the eyes typically take 30 minutes.

After your procedure, it’s essential to care for your skin. Your provider explains how to clean your skin and which products are safe. Most importantly, stay out of sunlight while the treated area heals.

Will I need downtime after microneedling?

You don’t need to take downtime, but you’ll have dryness, redness, slight swelling, and flaking (like a sunburn). It takes several days for these side effects to disappear, and many patients prefer to stay home while they heal.

When will I see microneedling results?

Be patient after microneedling. It takes a few weeks for your body to produce collagen and for the new skin to replace the old skin. The good news is that new collagen production continues for six to eight months after your treatment.

You can turn back time and eliminate signs of aging with microneedling. Call Apollo Physicians today or connect online to schedule a microneedling appointment.
